According to an interesting article in the Telegraph Sunday 19/12/2010 ” The X Factor is damaging the music industry say Chrysalis founder Chris Wright”.
What is the music industry nowadays ? if you read each word one after the other what’s does that mean for you ”Music” and ”industry”? industry mean business source of revenue so if you add both words Music and Industry the total is equal: to make money (revenue) with music. But today how to make revenue when everything is controlling by the digital world and by the artists themselves ?. There is no more an industry, record labels and even artists are looking for business ideas all over the place to find the way to make money with music.
The only way to make the artists make money nowadays is live performance, tour, concert, but the live performance only do not make the artist make revenue it is the purchases of tickets by the fans which create revenues. So you have to create a concert , a live performance concept to make the artist earn a” wage”.
Xfactor gives the artist exposure to be heard and viewed by the TV audience, why is good for artists ?, that can give to the right and talented artists an opportunity to show how he can sing, dance, but for Media Business purpose, if the Xfactor take the best ones The Show will be without interests and then the TV audience will get bored, that will be too perfect. So the Xfactor must create ridiculous story and find crap singers to entertain the audience and increase statistics for the TV channel which support them.
Some of the stories or artists singing performance, you think it’s done for a purpose, when you watch them you say to yourself ” this is ridiculous” and you think this is a Circus TV program. This make the artists and the ” job” of artist not taken seriously.
Xfactor make the artist dream and think ” if i win, i will have a record deal or a contract with the music industry” or I will make it financially, I will get paid, I will make money.! Well if you watch on TV and read articles about artists who won the Xfactor some of them have reached the stardom, fame but they do not stay longer, then you do not hear about them, so do you want a music career or a business contract ??? for example: The Xfactor machine use the artists to perform and make show at O2 just to make the brand ” Xfactor” become bigger and a social phenomenon.
After reading this article ” The X Factor is damaging the music industry say Chrysalis founder Chris Wright”. I am agree with Mr Chris Wright, most of the artists who go to Xfactor do not have talent and if they have they are chosen in advance for marketing purpose JLS, Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle. To make the people love the show more and more, any artists of any age now can audition, everybody are welcomed. I am very happy for Susan Boyle do not get me wrong.. Xfactor is also used as platform to make the TV audience used to see an artist they have chosen and know a long time ago (business contact) in advance to make people use to see her or him before she or he become famous For example: Watch below:
But for the Music Industry that’s is not good because the music industry need artist who can have a real career and bring serious revenue, they need talented artist such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince or maybe Lady Gaga soon. But without Marketing Strategy and financial support those artists can not go far and what record company today is ready to invest in an artist now if the artist is not talented and can sell ? so what they do they sign no talented artist to keep the casflow running until they find ” The Artist” who will make the difference.
But most of those artists can not be find at Xfactor, they have found in Pub, nightclub, open mic, This is where you find the real talent and even on youtube now. So if you want to have music career build your fanbase first , create a buzz with your own music, make people talk about you in live performances, learn the business so you will be able to make business with the music industry.
We are coming back to the old school before there were live performance to promote an artist now in 2010 and 2011 the artists must tour and be a brand themselves to make money.
Xfactor is a brand who use you to make revenue so make sure you too make money.
